Los Fresnos, PSJA Take Home First-ever Rio Grande Valley Titles

The girls of Los Fresnos and the boys of PSJA ISD are the first-ever Rio Grande Valley High School Water Polo Champions. The two teams prevailed at last-Friday’s inaugural event at Pharr Aquatic Center. The tournament completes an historic season for the region, which fielded the most-ever teams this spring and produced significant media coverage.

The PSJA boys, and the McAllen team which placed second, are veterans of TISCA West Region water polo competition. McAllen returned to the fold this year after a one-year hiatus. In 2017 the Bulldog boys ended the regular season fourth in the West Region standings. PSJA bettered McAllen by a single goal to take home the 2018 title.

Los Fresnos earned their first girls title only one year after forming the team. The Falcons entered the tournament seeded second to runners-up PSJA, whom they defeated 7-5 to earn their championship trophy.
